I can offer two suggestions

1) Have them help with the grocery shopping and make them choose things at the store you find acceptable. I tend to pack a little more than I know my daughter will eat because she’s a fairly picky eater and I never know if what she says she’ll eat at 7 am is what she will eat at 12 noon. I pack some kind of sandwich, a mini yogurt smoothie (those 2-3 ounce danimals things), some type of fruit or veggie, a juice box, and some kind of “treat”–a granola bar of some type. 2) Anything that isn’t eaten at school becomes snack at home between lunch and dinner (often in the car on the way home). This way, she’s not punished if play gets the best of her at recess or lunch, but if she chose to pluck out the chocolate chip granola bar for snack at recess, she’s going to be eating the carrots at 3 pm.
